If your computer dials up surf-ICI
using either 713-1332 or 713-1333, you will need to change the number to
396-0319. If you are not sure how to do this,
click on this link to
Tech Support and it will guide you through it. If you are
still unsure, call us at either 243-7888 or 834-7873 while you are by your
computer and we will help you get it done. You don't have to use a
cell phone or have a free line because your computer will not need to dial
in to make the modification.

August 13, 2003 Emergency
Security Alert for Windows XP and 2000 Users
The MBlaster Worm is starting
to dissipate around the Internet and most of our customers' computers have
been repaired. If you are just now getting a strange message that
says something like "RPC Your computer will shut down in 60 seconds"
then you are infected and need to run the following program which was
created by the people at Norton Antivirus:
Note: The MBlaster does not
affect Windows 3.1, 95, and 98 users. It affects Windows XP and 2000
users directly. Windows NT and 2003 users are only indirectly
affected and the security bulletin below explains this in detail.
Windows 2000:
Step 1: Hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE once to bring up your Task Manager.
Go to the Processes Tab and find mblast.exe listed as a process.
Stop the process and close the Task Manager.
Steps 2 and 3 are the same as for Windows XP below.
Windows XP:
Step 1: Turn on the firewall protection in Windows XP
Step 2: Run the FixBlast program to remove the MBlaster worm from
your computer.
FixBlast.exe Fixtool for W32.Blaster.Worm by Symantec
Corporation
Step 3: When the FixBlast
program is finished, it will take you to
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp
where you need to download and install the Blaster Worm: Critical Security
Patch for your version of Windows. NOTE: Windows XP Home
Edition and Professional Edition are both XP 32-bit.
Once you have completed these
steps, you are finished and protected from getting MBlaster again.

E-mail Virus Protection
Installed. Surf-ICI has installed a new e-mail virus scanner on
our end that will check all incoming e-mail messages, sent to our e-mail
server for viruses and prevent them from reaching your computer.
Already we have detected many infected e-mails and prevented the
viruses from reaching their destination. You do not need to do
anything to your computers to take advantage of this improved service, as
everything is taken care of on our end. If someone tries to send you
a virus, we will let both you and the sender know. It is still a
good idea to run a program on your computer such as Norton Antivirus and
be sure to keep your antivirus software updated with the latest virus
definitions.
